Chemical Engineering Intern

Internship Pune (Preferred) 2–3 Positions 2–3 Months Paid (post-probation)

Overview

  • Number of Positions: 2–3
  • Internship Duration: 2–3 months initially
  • Location: Pune (Preferred)
  • Engagement Type: Initial probationary period, followed by a paid internship based on performance

About the Role

Aabha Fuel Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is seeking motivated students with a strong foundation in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering to contribute to the laboratory-scale development and validation of synthetic fuel production processes.

The interns will work on chemical reaction studies, catalyst evaluation, process development, laboratory experimentation, process simulation, product analysis, and technical documentation. The role offers an opportunity to apply academic knowledge to real-world challenges in synthetic fuels, chemical process engineering, and clean energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews on synthetic fuel production, chemical reactions, catalysis, and relevant process technologies.
  • Assist in planning and conducting laboratory-scale chemical experiments under appropriate supervision.
  • Support the evaluation of catalysts, reaction conditions, and operating parameters.
  • Assist in developing and validating process stages involving chemical conversion, hydrogenation, and related downstream processes, as applicable.
  • Perform process simulation and basic process design using Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, or equivalent software.
  • Collect, analyse, interpret, and organise experimental data.
  • Assist in monitoring process performance, material balances, product yields, and process efficiency.
  • Support the separation, purification, and characterisation of reaction products.
  • Prepare experimental reports, technical documentation, process flow diagrams, and research summaries.
  • Maintain laboratory records and follow applicable laboratory safety procedures and experimental protocols.
  • Contribute to identifying process improvement opportunities and technical parameters for future scale-up.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Strong fundamentals in chemical reactions, chemical thermodynamics, reaction engineering, and catalysis.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline (Final Year and Pre-Final Year students can also apply).
  • Genuine interest in laboratory research, experimental work, and process development.
  • Ability to analyse technical information and interpret experimental results.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, or similar process simulation tools.
  • Understanding of chemical reactors, separation processes, distillation, and purification.
  • Exposure to gas chromatography (GC), GC-MS, HPLC, or other analytical techniques.
  • Basic understanding of material and energy balances, process flow diagrams, and process design.
  • Prior laboratory project, research, or internship experience in chemical engineering or fuel-related technologies.

Internship Structure

The internship will begin with an initial probationary period of 1 month to assess the candidate's technical understanding, learning ability, experimental discipline, safety awareness, and contribution to the project.

Candidates demonstrating satisfactory performance will continue with a paid internship for the subsequent period, subject to mutually agreed terms.

Expected Outcomes

By the end of the internship, the selected candidates are expected to contribute to:

  • Laboratory-scale process validation and experimental studies.
  • Generation and analysis of reliable experimental data.
  • Evaluation of reaction conditions, catalyst performance, and process parameters.
  • Development or improvement of process simulation models using experimental findings.
  • Technical reports documenting experimental methods, observations, results, and recommendations.
  • Identification of critical parameters and challenges for subsequent process scale-up.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for curious, disciplined, and technically driven individuals who enjoy solving engineering problems through a combination of scientific research, simulation, and experimentation. Candidates should be willing to learn, work collaboratively, and contribute to the development of commercially viable synthetic fuel technologies.
